OBSTRUCTION FOR THE OBSERVER
2020-10-27
On September 29, at around 17:00, ISFED’s long-term observer was monitoring a campaign meeting of the Lelo for Georgia candidate in village Sabatlo of Dedoplistskaro Municipality. Unidentified individuals stopped the party vehicle and obstructed their free movement. ISFED observer tried to record a video of the incident, but a brother of the mayoral representative and a local shop assistant hindered her from recording – they asked for documents that would confirm the right to record a video in a public space. In addition, to sort out the matter, they summoned the observer to the village center and told her that she "will not be able to leave the village.”
ISFED observer called the police, but the police did not arrive at the scene. The observer was later summoned to a local police station of Arkhiloskalo for filing a report. As she was leaving the police station, she received a call from the police, who asked her to return to the station to clarify some details because the police chief was interested in the matter. When she left the police station, she received a third call and was summoned to Dedoplistskaro Police Station.
The investigation was launched under Article 151.1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
