POLITICAL ARREST OF A GEORGIAN DREAM ACTIVIST GIA POPIASHVILI IN GAMARJVEBA

2012-07-13 On June 10, 2012, law enforcement officers detained activist of the Georgian Dream, Gia Popiashvili, of the village of Gamarjveba. It is noteworthy that Gia Popiashvili provided transportation for supporters of the coalition Georgian Dream with a minibus for the meeting held by the coalition with local citizens on May 27 and June 2 in Dedoplistskaro. Trial was scheduled immediately after Popiashvili’s detention. The court sentenced him to 10 days of imprisonment and his vehicle was sent to an impound lot. It must be noted that he was not provided with access to a lawyer prior to the trial.
