2013-02-27 On February 27 Sakrebulo Chairman Amiran Khvadagiani willingly resigned. At the meeting he stated that he was contemplating resignation prior to the elections and now he had made the decision after having exhausted his resources as a chairperson. Head of the legal committee and a member of the UNM, Tamaz Margvelashvili, was elected as the new chairperson. He used to serve as deputy chairperson for previous Sakrebulo and was holding the position of the legal committee chairperson. His candidacy was supported by 16 members of Sakrebulo out of 24, while eight opposed to his candidacy.
