PROTEST RALLY AND HANGER STRIKE IN ABASHA

2013-01-18 On January 4, activists of the Georgian Dream paralyzed the building of Abasha Municipality and demanded nomination of candidate that they favored, Irakli Rukhadze, for the position of Gamgebeli. On January 8, rally participants tried to break into the building demanding resignation of municipal officials and started a hunger strike. The population of Abasha protested over the appointment of Gocha Chanturia as Gamgebeli in the following days. On January 11 a rally in support of the new Gamgebeli Gocha Chanturia was held outside the office of Municipality Gamgeoba. There was a simultaneous hunger strike in the entrance of Sakrebulo building protesting appointment of Gamgebeli.
Eventually, rallies and hunger strike in Abasha demanding resignation of municipal officials were terminated on January 18 and Sakrebulo continued its usual work.
