PROTEST RALLY AGAINST GAMGEBELI OF ASPINDZA

2013-01-16 On January 16, some locals and activist staged a rally demanding that Gamgebeli resign. They sought appointment of Girogi Zedginidze, member of the coalition, instead. According to Zedginidze, he agreed to the offer of the Georgian Dream and introduced his election program to supporters.
Besik Bekauri, who is a current Gamgebeli is not going to submit a letter of resignation but rather, is continuing his usual work. According to Sakrebulo Chairperson Aleksandre Melikidze, Sakrebulo currently is not considering replacement of Gamgebeli.
According to the information of Georgian Dream representatives, the UNM’s candidate is seeking the office of Gamgebeli. Therefore, they are assembling outside Gamgeoba every day in order to nominate their own candidate as soon as Gamgebeli resigns.
On January 23 another small-scale protest rally was held in Aspindza, where participants nominated Levan Tsabadze, former captain of Georgia’s national rugby team, as another candidate for the position of Gamgebeli.
