PHYSICAL ATTACK AGAINST MEMBER OF YOUTH ORGANIZATION OF REPUBLICAN PARTY IN GORI

2013-07-02 On July 2, 2013 media spread information that 20 year old student, the member of Republican Party’s youth organization, Giorgi Papiashvili was cruelly beaten on the evening of June 23. Papiashvili and his lawyer Tamar Tedliashvili spoke to ISFED’s long-term observer about this incident.
As it turns out from the conversation, starting from the summer of 2012 police staff members – Giorgi Tabuashvili, Motsiqulashvili and Skhiashvili tasked him with provoking various crimes, the purpose of which was to discredit the staff of Georgian Dream’s office. He refused to collaborate and made public intimidation attempts. Papiashvili claims that along with policemen the member of Department of Constitutional Security Giorgi Sauri also psychologically abused him.
On June 23, 2013 policemen – Tabuashvili, Motsikulashvili and Skhiashvili severely beat him. This claim is supported by a mother of his friend who witnessed the above-mentioned incident.
On July 1, 2013, the head of Republican party’s regional organization held a press conference and demanded detailed investigation of the incident.
As a lawyer of Papiashvili stated to ISFED’s long-term observer, the investigation has already started. As for Giorgi Papiashvili, he avoids leaving house, while the state of his health improved, bruises on his body are still visible.
